KIRSTEN BARRY - The Beginning, The Middle, The End (Virgin Records America/56:25)

Barry's somewhere between PJ Harvey and Sheryl Crow, which makes her a rocker with a style that's neither hard nor soft.

Her songs are mainly self-absorbed musings about the state of existence. There's certainly something to be learnt in things like Nothing's So Good, Gotta Go and Seeing Gun.

Barry also does an interesting cover of Neil Young's Don't Cry.

But we could have done without overly self-indulgent filler material like God In The Box. Performance: **1/2 Sound: ****
